On Palm Sunday, the church celebrates Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and Jesus’s journey toward the cross. We commit ourselves to pave the way for well-being in our neighborhood. We wave our palm branches and usher in mental health justice, paving the way with our faith and our commitment to act…
Today we are insisting on a new social contract. A contract that holds the people charged with defending and protecting us accountable for their deeds and misdeeds. A contract that does not criminalize poverty. A contract that does not collude with detentions and deportations.
This year’s action will begin with a joint worship service at Humboldt Park United Methodist Church (2120 N. Mozart St.) beginning at 10:30am and ending by noon. Following a light lunch for those marching, there will be a street parade — a procession with palm branches and signs — ending on the east side of Palmer Square.
Finally, in the 35th ward, we may find the promise of “room at the inn” – housing justice and development that prioritizes people over profit. With this action, LSEA celebrates the hope of “room at the inn,” even while we continue to demand full public/affordable housing justice.
As part of the evening, we would like to provide refreshments and snacks. We also love to have someone provide entertainment from 7:00 – 7:30. If you are able to help out with any of these things, please sign up here and reach out to Rachel if you have other questions (email@example.com; 262-498-9133).
