September 8th is EVERYTHING

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday

Mark your calendars! Sunday, September 8th is our Fall Kickoff and “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday, an ELCA-wide day of service. We will celebrate the beginning of another school year, install our new Pastoral Intern Elle Dowd, and participate in service together.

St. Luke’s will partner with Erie Neighborhood House to provide an on-site volunteer training and workshop on immigration justice. At 10:00am, in between worship services, Erie Neighborhood House will host a volunteer training on-site for all interested attendees. The training will certify people to volunteer at Erie Neighborhood House’s monthly Citizenship Workshops.

At Citizenship Workshops, volunteers work 1:1 with immigrants in Chicago who are filing paperwork to become citizens. There will be sign-up forms at St. Luke’s for people to mark which dates they can volunteer at future Citizenship Workshops.

In addition to the volunteer training, Erie Neighborhood House will include a Know Your Rights workshop, both educating people on their rights without assuming citizenship status, and empowering bystanders to stand-up for immigration justice in their community.

There will be an accompanying activity for children, so we’re excited for all ages to participate!
