Do you have a true story from your own life to share this Lent, about the ways that individualism has pushed you away from God, other people, or creation?
Maybe God has helped set you free from unhealthy relationships or a toxic environment. Perhaps God is urging you to stop comparing your life to others around you and allowing you the freedom to create your own path. Maybe God is setting you free from the expectations you’ve set for yourself, and reminding you that where you are in your life journey is exactly where you need to be.

by Alyson Hankwitz 11/4/2018 Much like we heard last week, my journey of growing in generosity started out of an obligation. My sister and I were required to give one whole dollar out of our weekly allowance to church, and in return, we got to keep the other four dollars. Not a bad deal when
God is empowering us to build a powerful church through these relationships…
We make way for the God
Of divergent authority
Who breaches monarchs from the chrysalis of suffering
Who speaks within our beating hearts,
Lifting angels from their ashen wings.
because there was a time
alongside all god’s creatures
also lived and felt and ached and died.
We’ve become much more open about a lot of things over the years. I remember how my mother kept her diagnosis a secret from her best friend, because cancer was somehow regarded as shameful. Mental illness has long carried a similar stigma…
I also believe that it is here in the church that we can continue to break down some of the stigma surrounding mental illness.
