Community Dinner and Screening of “A Place at the Table.”
St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Logan Square is sponsoring a Community Dinner on Wednesday, April 24 at 6pm, at which we’ll be screening the 2012 documentary “A Place at the Table: One Nation. Underfed,” featuring actor Jeff Bridges and Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio. Following the screening there will be a moderated conversation to discuss the present reality of food insecurity in Logan Square and Humboldt Park, and an exploration of the opportunities open to people of good will who want to be part of the solution to local hunger. The closing of Humboldt Park Social Services’ soup kitchen and shelter at the end of 2012 has impacted hundreds of people each week in Logan Square and Humboldt Park who depended on that program to meet their basic nutritional needs. In response to that closure, several organizations have come together to organize a community effort to meet the needs of the underserved in our neighborhood.Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church of Logan Square is committed to issues of social justice and the health and well being of our neighbors in Logan Square. We have worked for over thirty years to feed thousands of men, women and children each week through our feeding ministry, Elijah’s Pantry, because we are invested in the health and well-being of our neighbors. We at St. Luke’s feel that sitting down together and sharing a meal is the best way to get to know all our neighbors, both hungry and well-fed. The breaking of bread is the most basic human engagement, but it also can be the most powerful. We look forward to sharing a meal, watching “A Place at the Table: One Nation. Underfed,” and tackling the issue of food insecurity together as a community.Community Dinner w/ Screening of “A Place at the Table: One Nation.
