(Re)Formation | Worship at the start of #Reformation500

unnamed.pngLutherans around the world and within our church body are preparing for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, which began with the Ninety-five Theses that Martin Luther made public on October 31, 1517.As we enter a year of preparation for this historic milestone, worship life at St. Luke's turns to focus on the ways in which God forms and reforms us in our lives of faith:October 9 | Formed by Gift2 Kings 5:1-3,7-15c  +  Psalm 111  +  2 Timothy 2:8-15  +  Luke 17:11-19October 16 | Formed by StruggleGenesis 32:22-31  +  Psalm 121  +  2 Timothy 3:14--4:5  +  Luke 18:1-8October 23 | Formed by FailureJeremiah 14:7-10,19-22  +  Psalm 84:1-7  +  2 Timothy 4:6-8,16-18  +  Luke 18:9-14Reformation Sunday | October 30 | Formed by TruthJeremiah 31:31-34  +  Psalm 46  +  Romans 3:19-28  +  John 8:31-36In these weeks of (Re)Formation, St. Luke's continues our practice of testimony. We have seen that when ordinary people share their real stories in worship, God is present. Stories about one person bear truth about the whole community, and about this moment in our lives together. Think about your own experiences with Lutheranism - its theology and doctrine, its practice in real faith communities, its public witness, and beyond. Do you have a testimony to share? We are inviting testimony on the following themes, at both the 9:00 and 11:00 services:When has Lutheranism been a gift to you? When has Lutheranism been a struggle for you? When has Lutheranism failed you? When has Lutheranism revealed something true about you?Preparing to observe #Reformation500 is not simply cheerleading a Western European religious heritage; it is an opportunity to remember and reclaim the stories that have formed us, to take an honest look at the global and local expressions of Lutheranism today, and to discern the ways in which God is still (re)forming the Church. If you’re interested in working with Pastor Erik or Pastoral Intern Erin on a testimony for (Re)Formation, click here.
