Children's Ministry this Fall
Dear Families of Children at St Luke's,You are in my prayers as you begin a school year that looks very different from previous ones.In previous years St Luke's has offered Sunday School from the beginning of September to the end of May. From March to May of this year we tried out Zoom Sunday School. A recent survey that I sent out indicated that Zoom seems unsatisfactory at this time. Instead I am proposing monthly inter-generational activities.
- September: Season of Creation Mini-Retreats
- October: Stories at Dusk - Look for more information coming soon!
- November: All Saints Pageant - Start researching your favorite saints!
Without in-person Sunday School, we need your help telling Bible stories at home. You can do that by reading your Spark bible during quiet time, or before bed; or by tuning in to Online Worship where we'll read a Bible story each week during the children's message. Bible stories form foundations for how our children think about God, faith and community. These stories can buoy our community and families during this challenging time. They will accompany us for the rest of our lives.I want to make sure that all of you have a Spark Bible that you can use at home. If you don't have one, please let me know so we can arrange for you to have one. We have a few at our church building that we can give away. There are lots of ways to keep faith active at home! Here are some ideas Pastor Erin and I compiled:
- Watch Online Worship as a family
- Light a candle and pray together before or after eating dinner
- Practice asking each other, "Where did you see God today?"
- Learn a bedtime prayer that everyone can recite together
- Challenge each other to memorize the Lord's Prayer. If you get that down, maybe you'd like to memorize the Apostles' Creed next! Or a favorite hymn!
- Read your Spark magazine together.
