Pride Month 2021 | Worship in June
Every week of the year, St. Luke's celebrates our many and diverse identities of gender and sexuality, but the month of June offers a special opportunity to highlight the gifts of LGBTQIA+ people to the church and the world. Join us for worship in the month of June, where we'll pay special attention to Queer Theology and Queer Biblical Interpretation. We're delighted to welcome two guest preachers in the month of June!On June 20th, our preacher is Ole Schenk. From the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta, Ole Schenk came to Chicago first through serving in the Young Adults in Global Mission program of the ELCA. Ole attended seminary at LSTC where he met and married his husband Troy Medlin. Ole enjoys singing in choirs, reading theology, lively conversation, and longs for a church as faithful in preaching the gospel as it is in taking risks to welcome the stranger and to love the neighbor. On June 27th, our preacher is River Cook Needham. River (she/her/hers/herself) earned her MA and ThM from The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. She uses her lived experiences to advocate for the full inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bi+, Trans+, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Ace+ people. She uses process theology and oral histories to learn more about the innate theologies of transgender people of faith.June 6 | Home is complicatedSecond Sunday after PentecostGenesis 3:8-15 | Trouble in the gardenMark 3:20-35 | Trouble when Jesus travels homeJune 13 | Becoming who we areThird Sunday after Pentecost2 Corinthians 5:6-10 [11-13] 14-17 | In Christ, a new creationMark 4:26-34 | The parable of the mustard seedJune 20 | Beautiful mystery of creationFourth Sunday after PentecostJob 38:1-11 | The creator of earth and seaMark 4:35-41 | Christ calming the seaJune 27 | Wholesome queer content™Fifth Sunday after PentecostWisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24 | God created humankind for immortalityMark 5:21-43 | Christ healing a woman and Jairus’s daughter
