Advent 2023 | Those Who Dream

This year's Advent theme is "Those Who Dream." What does it look like to live as those who dream? The prophets, the psalmists, John the Baptist, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, Simeon, Anna, the shepherds and the Magi—they were all dreamers. They received, discovered, and responded to God’s dreams for the world. In Advent, we step into the mystery and awe of God’s dreams and pray they shape our reality.

This theme is for the dreamers in all of us—those who dream of a deeper connection with God and those who dream of a better world. It’s for those who dream of comfort and for those who have given up on their dreams. It’s for those whose dreams have been crushed and for those who show us that dreams take time. Join us this Advent as we dream alongside prophets and angels, Mary and the Magi. Join us as we seek and sow God’s dreams for our world.

November 26 - First Sunday of Advent - Those who dream keep awake

December 3 - Second Sunday of Advent - Those who dream prepare the way

December 10 - Third Sunday of Advent - Those who dream sow joy

December 17 - Fourth Sunday of Advent - Those who dream are not alone

Outside of Sunday morning, there are several additional opportunities to observe Advent together as a community:

Advent Midweek will be Wednesdays in Advent: November 29, December 6, 13, and 20.

  • Soup and Saints will be at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall, with light dinner served and discussion focusing on the saints that are significant to the St. Luke's community. Our conversation will guide the development of the Mural of Saints in our front entryway.

  • Holden Evening Prayer will follow at 7:30 p.m.

The Logan Square Ecumenical Alliance's 11th Annual Las Posadas rally for public and affordable housing on Saturday, December 9 at 10am will focus on the campaign for Bring Chicago Home.

Caroling will be Sunday, December 17 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and our Cookie Exchange will be Sunday, December 17.

On Sunday, December 24th, Advent ends and we celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord, Christmas Eve. There will be NO Sunday morning worship on December 24th. Instead, join us for worship at 5:30 p.m. as we proclaim: This night we are those who dream.
