Season of Creation and Climate Control Summit Planning

In September, St. Luke's will be celebrating the "Season of Creation," in correlation with readings from the  Gospel of Mark.  The Word serves as a deep impulse summoning forth creation, evoking praise from creation and stirring life in creation. The "Season of Creation" will focus on various aspects of our natural world:

  • September 2 – Planet Earth Sunday
  • September 9 – Humanity Sunday
  • September 16 - Sky Sunday
  • September 23 – Mountain Sunday
  • September 30 – Blessing of the Animals

As we celebrate the gifts of creation, this is also a time to reflect upon the impacts we make within our world.  On Sunday, September 9, from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm, Chicago World Can't Wait will be holding a Climate Crisis Summit Planning Meeting at Next Door (659 W. Diversey Parkway, Chicago).Chicago World Can't Wait is proposing a summit to take place in Chicago during September or October, 2012 (exact location/date TBD).  Environmentalists, activists, faith leaders, community groups, human rights organizations, scientists, students, and anyone else committed to stopping global warming will be invited to a grassroots climate crisis summit.  There will be speakers and workshops that will provide an opportunity for everyone to engage in a dialogue and mobilize for action against the destruction of the earth due to global warming.  This will be a bottom-up forum by and for the people.  Organizations will be invited to table at the event. For more information about the Climate Crisis Summit Planning Meeting, please contact Barbara Lyons at barbaralyons1@mac.com, and please look forward to celebrating the "Season of Creation" this September in worship.
