Lutheran Disaster Response: Typhoon Haiyan

Special Offering to be Taken up this Sunday

Typhoon-Haiyan-2791290One week after Super Typhoon Haiyan ripped through the central Philippines, the situation is desperate. The most recent report from the United Nations tells us that 11.8 million children, women and men have been affected, more than 920,000 people are without homes and thousands have died as a result of the storm. Our staff on the ground in the Philippines echo the news media when they tell us that the devastation caused by the typhoon is comparable to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. In response, St. Luke's is partnering with ELCA congregations around the nation to deliver urgently needed assistance and supplies where they are needed most.  We will be taking up a special offering this Sunday which will go directly to Lutheran Disaster Response efforts in the Philippines. For more information on Lutheran Disaster Response's efforts in the region, click here.
