Holden Evening Prayer during Advent

by Dan Beirne

candlesThis Advent, St. Luke’s and Urban Acacia are excited to bring to the Logan Square community three Wednesday evenings of Holden Evening Prayer.Holden Village is a small intentional community in the Cascade Mountains of Northern Washington.  Accessible only by boat or a strenuous hike through the mountains, this isolated retreat center is a place of spiritual rejuvenation and re-connection with God, nature, and one’s self. This beautiful service, rich with silence, harmony, reflection and prayer, is very much a product of the setting from which it came.  No matter when or where this service is celebrated, it always seems to carry with it the peace and simplicity that are the hallmarks of Holden Village. As we place the peaceful disposition of this humble litany among the hustle and bustle of the city during the holidays, suddenly we have ourselves are very welcome respite that is just enough in contrast to the world around that it settles our souls. This service is open to all in the community for the first three Wednesday evenings of December, immediately following Community Dinner.

  • Wednesday, December 4th       6:30pm……Advent: as we wait
  • Wednesday, December 11th    6:30pm…..Stir up Your Presence
  • Wednesday, December 18th    6:30pm…Prepare our hearts to receive Your Son.

Each service will take place in the Sanctuary at St. Luke’s, 2649 N. Francisco. Please come, join us, and bring a friend.  All are welcome.
