Children's Education & Faith Formation at St. Luke's, Fall 2014

We're very happy to welcome our friend Melissa Wimer back to Chicago after her year-long sojourn in the United Kingdom ... and to announce that she will be heading up our Sunday morning education program for St. Luke's children. A seasoned elementary school educator, Melissa has also taught Sunday School here at St. Luke's and with other Lutheran congregations for many years and is a familiar face to families at St. Luke's.

Families with children interested in participating in and shaping the congregation's activities for children and youth are invited to join Melissa before worship on Sunday, September 7th at 10am for a fall orientation and planning conversation.

In addition to leading our Sunday morning program this fall, Melissa is also interested in providing teacher training for those interested in leading Sunday School this year or in the future. If you are interested in getting some practice and guidance working with young children, please contact Melissa at melwimer(at)att.net

We'll begin the fall with a month-long focus on Holy Communion using Augsburg Fortress' "Fed and Forgiven" curriculum, with lessons aimed at our children's different developmental levels. If your children have already received communion education here at St. Luke's or elsewhere, this will be a great next step in their understanding of this means of grace. If your child has not previously received communion education, this will be a great opportunity to prepare them to begin receiving Holy Communion during our weekly worship. As your children's primary instructor in Christian faith and life, you are the best judge of when they are ready to receive the sacrament. We are excited to support you in this responsibility through these classes. If you have additional questions or concerns about Holy Communion education this fall, Pastor Erik is very happy to speak with you individually.

We look forward to gathering again with familiar faces and new friends on Sunday, September 7th at 10am!
