Teaching the Faith
How did you become a Christian? Who passed on to you what they in turn had received from others? Who have been your teachers in the faith? Whose words, actions, witness or example have you followed as you practiced your faith?
Sermon: Sunday, April 12, 2015: Second Sunday of Easter
Like the disciples being commissioned to leave their locked hideout, St. Luke’s Logan Square and Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries are heading out on new paths. You have seen, experienced, and touched things here that you will need to tell others who come after you, so they believe the story of St. Luke’s. We will need to find new ways to have fellowship with one another. We’ll continue in some of the old ways. I’ll continue to tell the story of this remarkable congregation as I travel– how you had faith in Pastor Erik, how you imagined a new way of being church together – how we invested in you and watched you grow.
Gathered Around Words: An Invitation to Read Together this Fall
As we return to the familiar rhythms of fall, a time many of us associate with classrooms and school, I'd like to invite you to consider finding a book to read with other members of St. Luke's. Below you'll find some of my recommendations, based on topics I've heard bubbling up around the congregation and themes I've spotted in our life together. In years past I've often picked the book and then waited to see who was interested. This time around I'm encouraging you to sign up for books you'd like to read, and once we get four or five people who've indicated an interest, we'll pull you together and help you decide when you'd like to read the book, how often you'd like to meet, where you'd prefer to gather, and how the conversation will be facilitated.
Children's Education & Faith Formation at St. Luke's, Fall 2014
We're very happy to welcome our friend Melissa Wimer back to Chicago after her year-long sojourn in the United Kingdom ... and to announce that she will be heading up our Sunday morning education program for St. Luke's children. A seasoned elementary school educator, Melissa has also taught Sunday School here at St. Luke's and with other Lutheran congregations for many years and is a familiar face to families at St. Luke's.
