St. Luke's welcomes guest preachers on June 12th and June 19th while Pastor Erik is away. We're very excited that they'll be serving with us. Their passion and ministries are a gift to the whole church and we are honored that they'll be present with us.
Rev. Darryl Thompson Powell - June 12, 2016
Darryl Thompson Powell is married to Rev. Carla Thompson Powell (24 yrs) and they have three children (19, 16 and 13). He has been ordained 20 years, serving congregations in southern California, Michigan, and metro Chicago. Darryl’s current call is to the ELCA as a Program Associate Director for African Descent Ministries. He is passionate for justice including being actively involved with anti-racism and racial justice issues.
Rev. Dr. Maxine M. Washington - June 19, 2016
The Rev. Dr. Maxine M. Washington graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in June of 1986 and received her Doctorate of Ministry in June of 1992. She served at the ELCA office in the Commission of Multicultural Ministries as Associate Director – Education for Ministry. A call from the Southeast Michigan Synod as Assistant to the Bishop gave her the opportunity to work with the Candidacy Leadership Support and Congressional Life Synodical Committees.She has served as Mission Developer and led the consolidation of New Hope Lutheran Church and Incarnation Lutheran Church. This consolidation gave birth to Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church. A call from the Metro-Chicago Synod gave her the opportunity to serve as Associate to the Bishop. After a four year term, the call ended. Pastor Washington was called to Bethel Lutheran Church. Pastor Washington retired from Bethel in 2010 and then completed assignments to receive her Masters Degree in Community Development from North Park University. In retirement, she has served Holy Family Lutheran Church for four years as Interim Pastor and is presently available for pulpit supply in the Metro-Chicago area.
