God's Work. Our Hands.

 THIS Sunday, September 11th is "God's work. Our hands" Sunday, the ELCA-wide day of service. Join us at the home of Laura and Mark Wilhelm from 12:30-3:00 p.m. for lunch and an afternoon project in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ Muslim neighbors.This weekend, Muslims prepare for Eid al-Adha, an important festival honoring the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son. Eid al-Adha often involves the practice of charitable giving to the poor and needy. We gather on Sunday to listen anew to the story of Abraham, to learn about this origin story that Lutherans share with Jewish, Christian, and Muslim faith communities, and to reflect on our shared values of charity and justice.We also gather to prepare a "homewarming" gift for a flourishing community of LGBTQIA+ Muslims in Chicago who are currently in the process of moving into a new gathering space for prayer. As St. Luke's continues our process of home-leaving, home-making, and home-seeking, we show solidarity with interfaith neighbors who are also in this process. In Christ, we are freed to love and serve our neighbors, and to work together that all people might have a home in which to gather to live and pray in community.Following the 11:00 service, we will carpool to the home of Laura and Mark Wilhelm, 4132 N. Whipple Street. We'll share lunch and create "homewarming" gifts.
