Worship in July

Even in the heat of July in Chicago, flowers blossom. The time for tulip and hyacinth is past, but now we welcome summer blooms like hydrangea, rose, and viola. What do these colorful growths have to teach us about God, ourselves, and one another?

This month, worship will focus on the image of flowers, which grow, blossom, and wither in cycle with all creation.  In the second half of the month, the gospel of Matthew brings us Bible stories about seeds -- sprouting, growing, and green. In addition to scripture, worship will be enriched with songs like Tom Petty's Wildflowers and Pete Seeger's Where Have All the Flowers Gone?
