Confronting Pharaoh: A Training for Faith-Rooted Social Justice Advocacy
In partnership with the Logan Square Ecumenical Alliance, Community Renewal Society is offering a 2-part training for congregational "faith-in-action" teams to learn more about faith-based justice advocacy in order to build power and make lasting change in the lives of our neighbors.
Community Renewal Society's Annual MLK Day "Faith in Action" Assembly
This year's assembly will blend public prayer and historical witness to Dr. King's legacy with conversations with city decision makers and a mayoral candidate forum on jobs and public safety. Our attendance at this event will help ensure that community voices are heard by elected officials like Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, and will build power and momentum toward campaigns to prevent violence, fund public education and create jobs.
Justice Offering for January 2015
In addition to serving just under 2,000 youth and families each year, the services we offer give back to the community at-large and foster a safe and respectful space for all individuals regardless of their background. What I respect most about LCN and our work is our philosophy of harm-reduction and housing first, where we meet individuals where they are at in their lives and know that stable housing is the first step in stabilizing one's life.
Connect with the LSEA
. This event is open to anyone who wants to join with people of faith in the Logan Square area to advance social justice. A number of people in the St. Luke's community are already confirmed to attend.
Why You Should Care About What is Occurring to Women and Children in Artesia, NM
I do not think that anyone really knows how to reply to a five-year old boy who lifts up his shirt, shows you a scar, and says, “this is where he put the knife in my stomach.” Under the circumstances, I certainly was not able to guarantee this young boy that he would be safe from such a traumatic event happening again. He and his mother are being detained while the United States government vigorously and unapologetically pursues sending them back to Honduras.
