Erika grew up as a pastor's kid in Wyoming and northern Idaho. They are where she learned to camp, drive in the snow, and appreciate the mountains. One thing she loves about St. Luke’s is…how there's so many different ways and opportunities to be involved in the worship music! What was the first concert you went to?: The O.C. Supertones, circa 1998 (?)What is your least favorite Bible story?: Hm, there are many troubling stories, but the one I didn't like most as a kid was the Jacob and Esau story. Made me sad and confused how a family would trick each other like that. What is your favorite Bible story? Its not much of a story, but I really like the vision in Ezekiel where God tells him to eat the scroll. And so Ezekiel does and says its awesome tasting. Its such a weird and cool exchange. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?:I keep trying and failing to learn surfing, so I'd say that and how to build a computer, because that is so far beyond my normal realm of learning. If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as a mentor?: I've had really great mentors in my life so far, so I'd just pick to keep having them guide me!What do you want St. Luke’s to know about you?: I first found St. Lukes as a member of the Lutheran Volunteer Corps in 2010, and have loved being a part of the community in many ways ever since!Where’s Waldo?: On the Best Coast

But in particular I appreciate that people are smart and interesting and open to new ideas. What was the first concert you went to?: A Tirbe Called Quest, summer 1998What is your least favorite Bible story?: The Old TestamentWhat is your favorite Bible story?: 1) When Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene outside the tomb, and then she announces the news the the disciples. 2) When Peter walked on water until he didn't.If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?: I would like to be able to do home improvement projects myself, repair anything in my house or car myself, and grow grape tomato plants that produce enough fruit that I don't have to buy them at the grocery store. If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as a mentor?: Not a fan of mentors, but if I had to choose, I'd pick President Obama. What do you want St. Luke's to know about you?: I have a collection of photos of graffiti that I've taken during walks around New York City.Where's Waldo?: I am Waldo.
Ray PickettI teach New Testament at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. I also work a lot with pastors and networks on grounding the practices of community organizing in Scripture and adapting them to congregations. I live in Little Village, a Latino neighborhood, with my wife Liz Munoz. She is pastor of Nuestra Señora de las Americas, which meets at St. Luke’s. We live with two cats and two dogs. I have a 29 year old son in Lafayette, Louisiana, a 26 year old in Austin, Texas and a 6 year old grandson. For fun I mostly like to ride my bike around Chicago.
